Thursdays social climbing: come to meet locals and newbies at the club weekly social outing.

The game is simple, 1.Get together - 2.Go Climbing and just enjoy crags in and around Queenstown. (You will need your own gear to play) See you there!
After two years of in the making, hundreds of hours spent on gathering data, reviewing old and adding new climbs the new Queenstown Rock,Ice and Mountains is out very very soon!
The guidebook is at a special launch price of $40 and this is the only time and location this will be offered at this significant discount from retail price.
This guidbook is a complete rewrite, with over 200 pages in NZ's first full colour guidebook. There are new crags, new mountaineering sections, andour own aerial photographs which are the best in any guidebook for NZ. You have to see this book to believe the changes.
Everyone is welcome to come along to celebrate this ultimate guidebook for the Queenstown region. Launch party is at The Find (53 Shotover Street-Queenstown), Saturday 21st September from 6pm. Bring a group along.
Drinks and nibbles also on special and there will be a Quiz and fun comp with prizes to be won. So come along and bring friend and family.
This will be the biggest event of the year for climbers in Queenstown. Please come along and show your support and thanks to everyone who's been working so hard for the last two years. As always, the funds from this book go straight back into climbing related projects throughout the Wakatipu region.

Twizel Climbing Wall are having a competition over the weekend of 18-19th May. The club will be using some of the generous donations from the X-Wye event to fund some youths to go up and compete from the Youth Climbing Fund. Please register your interests with the club.

Yup, there's rules, but it's all to keep it above board, keep the fun and make it more open for every level of climbing...whether you flap around, or glide up with moves as slick as a ballet dancer. On Sunday the 19th the club organised a Treasure Hunt at Jardines boulders after kind approval by the owners.
Note that Jardines remain closed due to fire restrictions until further notice and thanks again to their owners for letting us have access and introduce the youngsters to climbing.
Queenstown Climbing Club is organising a Treasure Hunt at Jardines Boulders (this is a private property and will be opened only for this event) for our children from 2 to 8 years old. When: Sunday the 19th of February – from 10.30am to 12.30pm
The plan: a Treasure Hunt will be organised for about 1 hour, children will have to climb up and down boulders, with sometimes a little bottom push in order to find the stamps needed to fill up their cards.
Healthy Food and drinks will be provided. Awards will be given to all participants!!
What to bring? hiking/running shoes, sunhat, sunscreen, warm clothes if needed, extra food if needed.
Children need to be accompanied. I hope to hear from all mums and dads from the Queenstown Climbing Club! no excuses ! Pass the word around... as friends of members who have children and are interested to join up can do so too:-)

NB: Jardines Boulders will be closed again straight after the event due to fire restrictions until further notice.
Remember to register before 17th Feb otherwise there's a risk this will be cancelled if there's not enough numbers - take your kids along for a fun intro to climbing and bouldering!
Erik Bradshaw has recently returned from the first ski traverse of the Southern Alps and wil be talking about his experiences at the Queenstown Events Centre this Thursday 24th November 7-9pm. If you haven't read some of the press coverage of his trip, as you can image the trip was a huge challenge. As well as the physical and mental challenges, Erik had to invent his own equipment to deal with the journey. This should be a great talk and I'm sure it will have some superb stories and images from the 800km trip.
